Stay Hydrated: The Key to Wellness

· Health Tips

Water is essential for every cell in your body, yet many of us don’t drink enough of it. Simple strategies, such as infusing your water with fruits or setting reminders, can make a significant difference in your overall health and vitality.

During the warmer months, we perspire more through the skin...our bodies natural response to a rising temperature, helping us to cool down. But we don't just sweat out perspiration, we are also loosing some of the important minerals that are vital to our bodies ability to make our cells work at optimal levels.

Adding citrus fruits, berries, cumcumber or herbs like mint or rosemary to your water, or making ice cubes with them in, adds flavour to water, making it more palatable to those who insist that they can't drink water alone. Don't forget that foods like watermelon, cucumber etc all add to hydration levels

The essential minerals that we loose during perspiration are sodium, chloride, calcium, potassium and magnesium. And signs that you are low on these minerals can include muscle spasms and cramps, bone pain, irregular hearbeat, anxiety, irritability, confusion, dizziness, digestive disturbances and sleep issues.

If you are working out at high intensity or are perspiring more than usual, you can add high quality electrolytes to your drinking water to help replace the lost minerals eg BodyBio E-lyte electrolytes (contact me for a 10% discount code at The Natural Dispensary) or you can make your own with the following recipe:

470ml of fresh, filtered water

2 lemons - juiced & zested

3tbs raw honey

1/4-1/2 tsp on Celtic or Himilayan Salt

3 pills each of ferrum phosphoricum & natrum muriaticum tissue salts - optional

Allow the tissue salts to dissolve (if using), and blend all the ingredients together. Sip as needed or you can freeze in popsicle moulds
